LO1: Platform comparison report
Compare and contrast the use of different platforms and formats for delivering interactive media products.
Media platforms are the different ways users access media. The media platforms I will be talking about are Websites which mainly contains print related products, Kiosks which mainly contain maps and adverts, Apps which can be games and social media and mobile devices. All media platforms have advantages and disadvantages which I will be discussing.
Firstly, websites are mainly used to source information. The advantages are that they allow 24/7 access, it is easily accessible to a large number of people and the only things needed to access them are Wi-Fi and a device. However, they have their disadvantages. For example, they typically have large amounts of texts and the creators can't typically interact with the users.
Next is Kiosks. they are mainly used for things such as maps in places like shopping centres. The advantages are that they don't need internet, They are fixed so that customers know they can interact with them, you are able to control what people have access too and they are simple for people to use. however, the disadvantages are that they only do commands to a certain point, therefore complicated tasks probably aren't supported and employees are still needed incase customers need additional information that the kiosk can't provide.
Apps are mainly used for things such as games, social media and news. The advantages of Apps are that they allow companies to build loyalty for people that use their services, a large number of people can connect with them, it allows the company to build a stronger brand and they offer direct communication. However, the disadvantages are that app files can be sizeable and if it was an app such as the news app it could be inconvenient since the web can be easier to access for some people.
Finally, mobile devices can be used for communication and entertainment. The advantages are that they are readily accessible, they are relatively cheep and they are small and easily transportable. However, the disadvantages are that a phone itself can be a distraction, there are a number of security issues and there can be issues such as cyberbullying.
In conclusion, all media platforms have their own advantages and disadvantages and all users have their own preferences based on what works for them.
